The Canonical Five

So far, our primary focus has been Jack’s use of timetables based on days. But, Jack also used the three hundred years from the Glorious Revolution of 1688 to the start of the new Golden Age in 1988.

Jack, it seems, believed the Golden Age was the end result of a process that began with the Glorious Revolution.

The Whitechapel murders began in 1888 and split the three hundred years from the Glorious Revolution to the Golden Age  into a 2:1 ratio.

Moreover, he used weeks, as well as days and years. He used a modified version of the 70 weeks of years set out in the Book of Daniel. In the Bible, the weeks are divided into three lots – an initial lot of seven weeks, sixty-two weeks, and  then a final week.

Jack divided the seventy days from the first to the last canonical murders  based on the division set out in the Book of Daniel, albeit with a quirky twist. First, he added the initial seven weeks to the final week to get eight. Jack then divided sixty-two into twenty-two and forty. Thus, he murdered his second canonical victim (Chapman) eight days after Nichols. The deaths of Stride and Eddowes     (the double event) occurred twenty-two days later, and Jack killed Mary Jane Kelly, his fifth canonical victim,  forty days after the double event..

Days and Years

Jack added the 366 days of 1888 to the 300 years from the Glorious Revolution to the start of the Golden Age to yield the number of the Antichrist in the Book of Revelation.

Jack believed he confronted the Antichrist in 1888. His Antichrist, the Beast from the Sea, was  Charles Parnell and the Irish Home Rule Movement. In addition, he saw Jewish anarchists and the Social Democratic Federation, Britain’s first socialist political party as the false prophet or the Beast from the Land.

Jack’s aim was to stifle dissent by terrifying the population of the East End into supporting the police and the government. On the other hand, it’s  possible the Whitechapel murders were part of a wider conspiracy to discredit the Home Rule Movement, which, for whatever reason, was never fully implemented.

Years - 2:1 Ratio (rounded to nearest 10)

He used years to plan his attacks during the Autumn of Terror. He divided 200 and 100 into a 2:1 ratio, rounding to the nearest 10. This process produced the numbers 130, 70 and 30.

Days of the Canonical Five Murders

Then he combined these numbers (130, 30 and 70) and the day of first canonical murder. To ensure that all five canonical murders were in 1888, he calculated the day of Annie Chapman’s murder (252) using the days from Nichols’ murder to the end of 1888 (122) rather than the day of the murder (244). That is, he added  the largest number (130) and 122.

Because the middle number in Jack’s calculation is repeated, Jack killed two victims on the same night, i.e. the  double event.

Jack calculated the day of Kelly’s murder, the last canonical murder, by adding 70 to 244, the day of the first canonical killing.
